These cartridge boxes are handcrafted by Tennessee
artisan Derreld Hallenbeck. D.H. is a formally trained and highly skilled
artisan who specialized in the design and creation of some of the worlds most
beautiful and unique furniture. So why is D.H. making cartridge boxes?
It's simple - I twisted his arm!
For
years I have searched for a functional cartridge box. I have without
exaggeration owned nearly every cartridge box available today from cheap plastic
to expensive Delrin. While most serve the purpose of a cartridge box, all have
one or more features that render them irritating to use. The most common flaws
are a result of improper hole depth, size, and spacing. The combination of these
factors make it difficult to pick up and remove a cartridge while reloading. One
really annoying problem is when I am in nearly finished reloading and a case
full of powder catches in the hole and spills powder everywhere. Often with
many cartridge boxes one grain of powder can lock a case in place making it
nearly impossible to remove. Many cartridge boxes will also not keep
fired cases in their place if turned upside down, or cannot accommodate
loaded rounds securely in both a bullet-down or bullet-up position. I
actually think we've solved these problems!

hardwoods available which include: walnut, cheery, bird's eye maple as well as
exotic hard woods such as cocobolo, mahogany, teak, and purple heart (call for

Ordering Information
While I
have helped design these boxes and continue to consult with Derreld on
continuing development, I am simply too busy with the bullet business to become
involved with producing and selling another product. Jim Andress, of
Precision Rifles and Gunsmithing, has agreed to work with Derreld to distribute
these boxes nationally. As more designs develop to maturity and features

Since each
box is genuinely unique, pricing varies, but generally the 25 cartridge models
run around $125 ($100 for a limited time), while the 50 cartridge models start
at $160 ($150 for a limited time). Special orders are welcome and can
usually be completed in a short time. Models are also available that fit
into Scotty Crawford's famous rest-mounted shellholder frame, with a completely
removable top.
